We Need This: Mint for groceries
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010I’m a big, big fan of the personal financial website tool Mint. It lets me track all of my purchases and mine that data for trends.
Now what I want is finer grained data. I don’t just want to know that I spent $50 at the grocery store, I want to know how much I spent on peas. And I want to see how often I buy them, and if there’s an up/down price trend. I think many of us regular grocery shoppers roughly track this in our heads, but I would enjoy being able to see it on my computer screen.
I thought about creating an iPhone app tied to Red Laser (the barcode scanner) that would record each product individually, but this would require the rather cumbersome process of hand-scanning anything.
I’m sure the grocery store already tracks this info, so it shouldn’t be hard to get it into my hands.
