non-linear time slider for online video
Thursday, September 24th, 2009How hard is this: if I’m watching a video online, I want fine-grained control (second by second or even frame by frame) for the part I’m watching currently. If I move the slider a lot, it’s because I want to jump ahead a lot.
So you put a “magnifying glass” on the time slider and equate relatively large movements to small time increments if I’m moving in my present location. If I move the time slider far from the current location, return to a linear style jump. I think it’s still an intuitive visual interface (with the magnifying glass), and it’s much more useful than trying to pick the proper pixel if I want to move around just a small amount in time during my video watching.
